Bio

Joan Fischer is a seasoned writer and editor whose first job in journalism was working as a stringer for the Associated Press in Germany, where she lived for nearly a decade. She has spent most of her career as a magazine editor and writer, most recently for the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the nonprofit Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. She has a particular interest in stories about people and projects that improve and enrich our world.

Joan holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California at Berkeley and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her work has earned her numerous state and national awards.
