Bio

Joan Fischer is a seasoned writer and editor whose first job in journalism was working as a stringer for the Associated Press in Germany, where she lived for nearly a decade. She has spent most of her career as a magazine editor and writer with universities and nonprofits, and currently works for the University of California, Berkeley. She has a particular interest in stories about people and projects that improve our world.

Joan holds a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Berkeley and a master’s in journalism from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her work has earned her numerous state and national awards.
